Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start from the main road (Route 1) and head towards Thingvellir National Park. From Route 1, take the exit onto Route 36 towards Thingvellir. Continue for about 20 km until you reach the park entrance. Pay the entrance fee, which is approximately ISK 1,000 per vehicle. Once inside the park, follow the signs towards Langistígur. The road will lead you to the designated parking area near the hiking trails. Make sure to check the weather conditions, as some roads may be closed during winter.

• Public Transportation

  If you prefer public transportation, take a bus from Reykjavik to Thingvellir National Park. The bus service is operated by Strætó, and you can catch it from the main bus terminal in Reykjavik. The journey takes around 1 hour and costs approximately ISK 1,500. Once you arrive at the bus stop in Thingvellir, you will have to walk to the park entrance, which is about a 15-minute walk. After entering the park, follow the signs to Langistígur. Please note that bus services may have limited schedules, so check the timetable in advance.

• Hiking

  For those who are adventurous and already in the vicinity of Langjökull Glacier, you can hike to Langistígur directly from nearby hiking trails. Make sure you're equipped with proper hiking gear and check trail maps available at the park. Depending on your starting point, the hike can take several hours, so plan accordingly. Always inform someone about your hiking plans and check the weather before setting out.
