Car
If you're driving to Þórsmörk, start from Hvolsvöllur. Head east on Þórsmerkurvegur (Road 249). The road is gravel and may require a 4x4 vehicle due to river crossings and rough terrain. Follow the signs for Þórsmörk, which is approximately 30 km from Hvolsvöllur. Ensure to check road conditions, as they can be affected by weather. There may be parking available near hiking trails.
Public Transportation
From Hvolsvöllur, take a bus operated by various local companies that offer daily services to Þórsmörk. The bus departs from Hvolsvöllur’s bus station. Make sure to check the schedule in advance, as services may be limited, especially in the off-season. The journey takes about 1.5 hours and the bus fare is around ISK 3,500-4,500 (approx. $25-$32 USD).
Hiking
If you are already on the Laugavegur Trail, you can hike to Þórsmörk from the nearby hut at Emstrur (Botnar). The hike is about 15 km and takes approximately 5-6 hours.
