Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, begin your journey from the nearest town, which is Landmannalaugar. From Landmannalaugar, head south on Route 26 and then take a right onto Route 32. Follow Route 32 until you reach the intersection with Route 1 (the Ring Road). Take a left onto Route 1, and continue west until you see the signs for Hólmsárfossar. The waterfall is located approximately 15 kilometers from the Ring Road. There is a small parking area available near the waterfall. Note that a parking fee may apply.

• Public Transportation

  If you're using public transportation, take a bus from Reykjavik to Hella, which is the nearest town with bus connections. Once in Hella, you can take a local bus to Landmannalaugar. Upon reaching Landmannalaugar, you will need to hike the Laugavegur Trail towards Hólmsárfossar. The trail is well-marked, and it's approximately a 2-hour hike from Landmannalaugar to Hólmsárfossar. Make sure to check the bus schedules in advance, as services may be limited.

• Hiking

  If you are already on the Laugavegur Trail and wish to visit Hólmsárfossar, continue along the trail from Landmannalaugar. The path is scenic and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscapes. Keep an eye out for trail markers, and after about 2 hours of hiking, you will arrive at Hólmsárfossar. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking gear and bring enough water and snacks for the journey.
