Getting There

Car
If you are driving, start your journey from the nearest town, Hella, which is approximately 50 kilometers away. Head east on Route 26 towards Þingvellir and then merge onto Route 1 (the Ring Road). Continue along Route 1 for about 30 kilometers until you reach the junction at Selfoss. Take Route 30 towards Þjórsárdalur, then merge onto Route 32. Follow Route 32 until you reach the junction with Fjallabaksleið Nyrðri. Turn onto Fjallabaksleið Nyrðri and continue for about 12 kilometers until you reach Sigoldufoss. Make sure your vehicle is suitable for F-roads as some sections may be rough. There are no tolls on this route.

To reach Sigoldufoss using public transportation, take a bus from Reykjavik to Hella (approximately 1.5 hours). Once in Hella, transfer to a bus heading towards Þjórsárdalur. Be sure to check the schedule as the buses may not run frequently. Once you reach the stop nearest to Sigoldufoss on Fjallabaksleið Nyrðri, it will require a short hike of about 1 to 2 kilometers to reach the waterfall. Always check local bus schedules and routes in advance as they can vary seasonally.

If you are already hiking the Laugavegur Trail, take the route towards Þjórsárdalur. From the last campsite, follow the marked paths towards the valley.
