Car
To reach Stakkholtsgjá Canyon by car from the Laugavegur Trail, first head towards the town of Þórsmörk. You can access Þórsmörk by taking Road 1 (Ring Road) from Reykjavík towards Hella. At Hella, take Road 26 towards Þórsmörk. The last part of the journey requires a 4x4 vehicle due to river crossings. Follow the signs to Þórsmörk, and once you arrive, park at the visitor center. From the visitor center, you can take the marked hiking path towards Stakkholtsgjá Canyon, which is about a 3 km hike.

Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, take a bus from Reykjavík to Þórsmörk. Several bus companies provide this service, such as Sterna and Reykjavik Excursions. The bus ride takes about 4-5 hours and costs around 10,000 ISK. Once you arrive at the Þórsmörk bus stop, you can follow the marked trails to Stakkholtsgjá Canyon, which is approximately a 3 km hike from there.

For those already on the Laugavegur Trail, you can reach Stakkholtsgjá Canyon by taking a detour towards Þórsmörk. Follow the trail markers leading to Þórsmörk, and once you reach the visitor center, continue on the designated hiking path towards Stakkholtsgjá. Ensure you have adequate supplies and a map, as this trail is well-marked but may take a few hours depending on your pace.
