Car
If you're traveling by car, you will want to head towards Route 1 (the Ring Road) if you're not already on it. From the town of Egilsstaðir, take Route 1 heading west. Continue for about 50 kilometers until you reach the junction with Route 931. Turn left onto Route 931 and follow it for approximately 20 kilometers. As you approach Hafragilsfoss, look for signs directing you to the parking area. The waterfall is located just a short walk from the parking lot.
Public Transportation
For those relying on public transportation, your best option is to take a bus from Egilsstaðir to the town of Reykjahlíð, which is the closest settlement to Hafragilsfoss. Once in Reykjahlíð, you may need to book a taxi or arrange for a guided tour that includes Hafragilsfoss, as public transport does not directly reach the waterfall. Make sure to check the local bus schedules ahead of time, as they can vary, and you may need to reserve your taxi in advance.
Walking
If you are already in the vicinity and prefer to walk, you can hike to Hafragilsfoss from the nearby parking area. The walk from the parking lot to the waterfall is relatively short, approximately 1 kilometer. There are well-marked trails, and you will be treated to stunning views of the canyon along the way. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes, as some areas may be rocky and uneven.
