Car

If you're traveling by car, head towards Reykjahlíð, which serves as a good reference point. From the town, drive approximately 10 kilometers northeast on Route 1 (the Ring Road). You will see signs for Stóragjá; turn onto Route 862 (Grímsstaðir Road). Continue for about 4 kilometers until you see a small parking area on your left. Park here and follow the marked walking path to reach Stóragjá.

Public Transportation

If you're relying on public transportation, take a bus from Akureyri to Reykjahlíð, which is the nearest town to Stóragjá. Buses run regularly, but check the local schedules for exact timings. Once you arrive in Reykjahlíð, you can either walk (approximately 1.5 hours) towards the parking area on Route 862, or if available, consider hiring a local taxi to take you the remaining distance to the entrance of Stóragjá.

Walking

For those already within Vatnajökull National Park and nearby, if you arrive at the parking area on Route 862, follow the marked trails leading to Stóragjá. The walk is about 15-20 minutes and offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscape. Ensure you wear suitable walking shoes, as the terrain can be uneven.
