Car
If you are driving from Akureyri, take Route 1 (the Ring Road) heading east. After approximately 60 km, turn right onto Route 842 towards Dimmuborgir. Continue straight for about 8 km until you reach the Dimmuborgir parking area. The parking fee is usually around 1000 ISK per vehicle. From the parking lot, follow the signs to the various hiking trails through the lava formations.
Public Transportation
From Akureyri, you can take a bus to Mývatn. Ensure to check the bus schedule in advance as services may be limited. Once you arrive at Mývatn, you can use local taxis or rideshare services to reach Dimmuborgir, which is about 10 km away. Be prepared for the taxi fare to be around 2000-3000 ISK depending on the provider.
