If you are traveling by car, from Reykjavik, take Route 41 heading southwest towards Keflavik. After about 40 km, you will reach the junction with Route 43. Turn left onto Route 43 and continue for approximately 12 km. Then, turn right onto Route 427. Follow Route 427 for about 10 km until you reach Sandvík. Look for signs indicating the nature preserve. There is no entry fee to access Sandvík, but ensure your vehicle is parked in designated areas.
Public Transportation
To reach Sandvík using public transportation, begin at the Reykjavik Bus Terminal (BSI). Take the bus number 55 to Keflavik, which runs regularly throughout the day. After about 45 minutes, disembark at the stop near Route 43. From there, you may need to arrange a local taxi or rideshare to complete the remaining 12 km to Sandvík, as direct public transport options may be limited in the more rural areas. Expect to pay for the taxi fare, which can vary, typically ranging from 2,500 to 4,000 ISK.
