Getting There

• Car

  From Reykjavik, take Route 1 (the Ring Road) heading east for about 36 kilometers. Then, take the exit onto Route 36 towards Thingvellir National Park. Continue on Route 36 for approximately 30 kilometers until you reach Hveragerði. In Hveragerði, follow the signs for Reykjadalur. You can park at the designated parking area at the end of Reykjadalur road (Reykjadalur 816). The parking lot may charge a small fee, around 600 ISK (Icelandic Krona). From the parking area, follow the marked hiking trail for about 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) to reach the hot spring thermal river.

• Public Transportation

  From Reykjavik, take the bus from BSI Bus Terminal to Hveragerði. The bus ride takes about 45 minutes, and tickets typically cost around 1,500 ISK. Once you arrive in Hveragerði, you will need to walk to the Reykjadalur parking area, which is approximately a 30-40 minute walk (around 2 kilometers). From the parking area, follow the marked hiking trail for about 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) to reach the hot spring thermal river.

• Hiking

  If you are already in Hveragerði, you can start your hike to Reykjadalur Hot Spring Thermal River directly. From the center of Hveragerði, head towards Reykjadalur valley by following the signs. The hike is approximately 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) and will take around 1 hour. Make sure to wear suitable hiking shoes and bring water and snacks for the journey.
