Getting there

Car

If you're traveling by car, start from the nearest town, Ásólfsskáli. Drive south on Route 1 (the Ring Road) and take the exit onto Route 26 towards Þingvellir. Follow Route 26 for approximately 15 kilometers until you reach the junction for Route 30. Turn onto Route 30 and continue driving until you see signs for Íráfoss. The waterfall is easily accessible from the road, and there is usually parking available nearby. Please ensure to check weather conditions and road closures before your trip.

Public Transportation

For those using public transportation, you can take a bus from Reykjavik to Hella, which is a common stop on the way to the Laugavegur Trail. Once in Hella, you will need to switch to a local bus service that goes towards Þingvellir National Park, which will get you closer to Íráfoss. Be sure to check the bus schedules ahead of time as they can vary. From the closest bus stop, it is about a 2 km walk to Íráfoss, so wear comfortable shoes and prepare for some light hiking.

Hiking

If you are already on the Laugavegur Trail, you can hike towards Íráfoss as a side trip. From the main trail, look for signage directing you to the waterfall. The hike is about 4 km from the main trail with a moderate difficulty level. Follow the trail markers, and enjoy the stunning landscapes along the way.
