Car
If you are driving to Básar, Þórsmörk, you need to head towards the Þórsmörk valley from Hvolsvöllur. Follow Route 1 (the Ring Road) east until you reach the junction with Route 26. Turn onto Route 26 and continue until you reach the entrance to Þórsmörk. Note that you will need a 4x4 vehicle to navigate the F-roads leading to Þórsmörk. Once in Þórsmörk, follow the signs to Básar, which is approximately 15 km away from the main entrance of the valley. The roads can be rugged, so drive with caution.
Public Transportation
To reach Básar by public transportation, start from Reykjavík and take a bus to Hvolsvöllur. From Hvolsvöllur, you can catch a bus operated by the local company that provides services to Þórsmörk. Make sure to check the schedules in advance, as they can vary by season. Once you arrive at the Þórsmörk bus stop, you will need to hike or arrange for a local transport service to take you the remaining distance to Básar, which is roughly 15 km away.
