Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Vík, head towards the main road, Þjóðvegur 1 (Route 1), which is the highway that runs through Iceland. Walk north along the main street (Víkurbraut) until you reach the junction with Þjóðvegur 1. At this junction, turn left onto Þjóðvegur 1. Continue walking along this road for approximately 10 kilometers (about 2 hours on foot). You will pass beautiful landscapes and may see some local wildlife along the way. Look for signs indicating the direction to Eyjafjallajökull Info Point. The Info Point is located on the left side of the road, just before the turnoff to the area around the Eyjafjallajökull glacier.

    Rent a bike from one of the rental shops in Vík. Head towards the main road, Þjóðvegur 1 (Route 1). Follow Víkurbraut until it intersects with Þjóðvegur 1, then turn left onto the highway. The ride to Eyjafjallajökull Info Point is approximately 10 kilometers. This should take around 30-40 minutes depending on your biking speed. Keep an eye out for the signs as you approach the Info Point, which will be on the left side of the road before the turnoff to the glacier area.
