From Heimaey, the main island in the Westman Islands, drive to the ferry terminal and take the ferry to Landeyjahöfn (approximately 35 minutes). Upon arriving at Landeyjahöfn, drive towards Route 1 (the Ring Road) heading east. Continue on Route 1 for about 25 kilometers until you reach the turnoff for Sólheimasandur (look for signs). Park in the designated parking area, which may have a small fee. From the parking area, follow the well-trodden path for about 4 kilometers (approximately a 45-minute walk) to reach the Solheimasandur Plane Wreck.

From Heimaey, you can take a local bus to the ferry terminal at Landeyjahöfn. Once you arrive at Landeyjahöfn, you will need to arrange a car rental or taxi to continue your journey. The taxi can take you to the designated parking area near Sólheimasandur. After parking, follow the marked path (approximately a 4-kilometer walk) to the plane wreck. Be sure to check the bus schedules ahead of time, as they can vary.

For adventurous travelers, renting a bicycle in Heimaey could be an option. First, take the ferry from Heimaey to Landeyjahöfn, then bike along the Route 1 for about 25 kilometers.
