If you are starting from downtown Coeur d'Alene, head east on Sherman Ave towards 4th St. Turn left onto 4th St and continue walking until you reach Lakeside Ave. Turn right onto Lakeside Ave, which will lead you along the shoreline of Lake Coeur d'Alene. Follow Lakeside Ave as it turns into E Potlatch Hill Rd. Continue on E Potlatch Hill Rd for about 1.5 miles until you reach the entrance of Fernan Lake Natural Area on your left.

From downtown Coeur d'Alene, rent a bike from one of the local rental shops. Begin your journey by biking east on Sherman Ave. Turn left onto 4th St and then right onto Lakeside Ave. Follow Lakeside Ave and enjoy the scenic view along the lake. When Lakeside Ave turns into E Potlatch Hill Rd, continue straight for about 1.5 miles. Fernan Lake Natural Area will be on your left. The biking trail is mostly flat and suitable for all levels.
