Getting There

Public Transit - Metra Train
From Arlington Heights, head to the Arlington Heights Metra Station located at 45 W. Northwest Highway. Purchase a ticket to Chicago Union Station. Once on the train, enjoy the scenic ride, which takes about 45 minutes. When you arrive at Union Station, exit and walk to the nearby Ogilvie Transportation Center. From Ogilvie, take the CTA Pink Line train towards 18th and get off at the Damen stop. Transfer to the Blue Line train towards O'Hare and ride it until you reach the Washington station. From there, transfer to the Red Line towards Howard and get off at the Grand station. Exit the station and walk east on Grand Avenue for about 10 minutes to reach the Chicago Children's Museum at 700 E Grand Ave.

Public Transit - Bus
From the center of Arlington Heights, walk to the nearest bus stop on Northwest Highway. Catch the #696 bus towards Chicago. This bus will take you directly into the city. Once you reach downtown Chicago, you will need to transfer to the #65 bus heading towards Grand Avenue. Get off at the Grand Ave & Streeter Dr stop, which is very close to the Chicago Children's Museum. Walk east for a few minutes to reach the museum at 700 E Grand Ave.

If you're close enough to the downtown area of Arlington Heights, simply start walking towards the Metra train station at 45 W. Northwest Highway. Once there, follow the instructions for the Metra Train option above. If you are in a more central location and do not want to take public transport, you can also walk to nearby bus stops or even take an extended walk to the museum, which may take over an hour but is a great way to see the area.
