Situated on the east bank of the Fox River in North Aurora, Illinois, the center encompasses over 40 acres of lush forest and diverse wildlife habitats. Since its establishment in 1977, Red Oak Nature Center has been connecting visitors with the wonders of the natural world through hands-on experiences and educational programs.The nature center features a variety of indoor and outdoor attractions. Inside, visitors can explore interactive exhibits, observe native animals in recreated habitats, and learn about the local ecosystem. Animal exhibits include a 500-gallon turtle and fish setting, as well as habitats for frogs, snakes, and salamanders. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore six wood-chipped hiking trails, including the nationally renowned Fox River Trail, perfect for hiking and biking. The trails lead to a small dolomite cave and offer scenic views of the Fox River.Red Oak Nature Center provides educational opportunities for all ages, including school field trips, summer camps, and nature-based preschool programs. Visitors can also enhance their exploration with free Nature Exploration Bags, equipped with tools for observing birds, insects, and seasonal changes.
