Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start on IL-127 S from any point in the Illinois Ozarks. Continue on IL-127 S for approximately 10 miles until you reach the junction with IL-146 W. Turn left onto IL-146 W and drive for about 15 miles. As you approach Ozark, look for signs directing you to Shawnee National Forest. Keep an eye out for the campground signs as you near your destination.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, your best option is to take a Greyhound bus to the nearest major city, either Carbondale or Marion, IL. From there, you can use a local taxi service or rideshare app (like Uber or Lyft) to reach Redbud Campground. Expect the taxi or rideshare fare to be around $30-$50 depending on your exact pickup location and traffic conditions.

• Bicycle

  If you're feeling adventurous and want to bike to Redbud Campground, start from the nearby city of Harrisburg, IL. Follow IL-34 S for about 12 miles until you reach the campground area. Note that biking along state highways can be challenging due to traffic, so be sure to wear a helmet and follow all safety guidelines.

• Walking

  If you are already close to the campground and prefer walking, make sure to have a reliable map or GPS on your phone. From the center of Ozark, it's about a 5-mile walk to the campground. Take IL-146 W until you see the signs for Redbud Campground. Ensure you have water and proper walking shoes, as the terrain can be uneven.
