Rockefeller Memorial Chapel, located on the University of Chicago's Hyde Park campus, is a magnificent architectural and spiritual center. Financed by John D. Rockefeller, Sr., and designed by Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue, the chapel was completed in 1928 and quickly became a visual landmark along the Midway Plaisance.The chapel's design showcases the Late Gothic Revival style, characterized by its soaring arches, intricate stonework, and impressive scale. Constructed entirely of stone, with the exception of steel supports for the tower's carillon and roof, the chapel is adorned with sculptures representing the humanities and sciences. Inside, the serene color palette and unique Guastavino tile vaulting create a calming and awe-inspiring space. The chapel is home to the Laura Spelman Rockefeller Memorial Carillon, one of the largest carillons in the world, and a grand organ with over 10,000 pipes.Today, Rockefeller Chapel continues to serve as a hub for religious, musical, and academic events. Visitors can attend Sunday services, explore the chapel's architecture and art, and enjoy carillon recitals.     Public Transport

    From downtown Chicago, take the Metra Electric Line train to the 57th Street station. From there, walk east on 57th Street, then turn right onto University Avenue and walk south to the chapel. Alternatively, take the #6 bus to the intersection of 59th Street and Woodlawn Avenue. The chapel is a short walk north from this intersection. A single ride on the Metra Electric Line costs around $4.00 - $6.00, depending on the distance. A single ride on the #6 bus costs $2.50.

    Walking

    From the University of Chicago campus, Rockefeller Chapel is easily accessible on foot. From the main quads, walk south towards the Midway Plaisance. The chapel is located on the north side of the Midway, at the intersection of Woodlawn Avenue and 59th Street. There is no cost associated with walking.

    Taxi/Ride-share

    From downtown Chicago, a taxi or ride-share to Rockefeller Chapel will cost approximately $20 - $30, depending on traffic and surge pricing. The trip will take around 20-30 minutes.
