If you are driving from Metro East, take I-55 N from the area. Merge onto I-90 W toward Rockford. After approximately 50 miles, take exit 44 for IL-47 toward Woodstock/Union. Follow IL-47 N for about 10 miles, then turn left onto Olson Rd. The Illinois Railway Museum will be on your right at 7000 Olson Rd, Union, IL 60180. Be aware that parking is available on-site and is typically free.

To reach the Illinois Railway Museum via public transportation, you would first need to travel to the nearest Metra station from Metro East. The closest station is the Alton station. From there, take the Metra train (the Alton Line) towards Chicago Union Station. At Union Station, transfer to the Metra Northwest Line towards Crystal Lake. Get off at the Woodstock station. From Woodstock, you will need to take a taxi or rideshare service to reach the museum, which is about 9 miles away.
