The Brick Road stands as a testament to early road construction in Illinois. Constructed in 1914 and dedicated on August 24, 1915, this road was the first of its kind in northern Illinois to receive state aid for paving. The road was built on the old Chicago and Iowa Trail. The original design featured a single lane of fired bricks in the north lane and a dirt track in the south lane, stretching for one and five-eighths miles.Today, The Brick Road offers visitors a chance to step back in time and experience a tangible piece of transportation history. While only a portion of the original brick road remains, it serves as a reminder of the challenges and innovations of early road building.
