    From Oregon, IL, head south on IL-2 for approximately 3 miles. The entrance to Castle Rock State Park will be on your left. Follow the park road to the parking area for the overlook. Parking is free. Be aware that parking can be limited during peak times.

    If you are already within Castle Rock State Park, follow the marked trails towards the sandstone bluff. The trails are well-maintained but involve some stairs to reach the top of the overlook. Follow signs for the 'Overlook' or 'Castle Rock'.

The park itself spans 2,000 acres, including a 710-acre nature preserve, showcasing unique rock formations, ravines, and diverse plant life.The area's history is rich, with the Sauk and Fox tribes inhabiting the region until the early 1800s, when they were forced westward. The river was known as "Sinnissippi," meaning "rocky waters". In the early 19th century, Chief Blackhawk led raids to reclaim ancestral lands. The beauty of the land led to the area being proposed as a state park in 1921, with the park officially established in 1978.Visitors can access the overlook via staircases leading to the top of the bluff, offering views of the Rock River valley. The park also features six miles of marked hiking trails, picnic areas, and a boat ramp for river access. Castle Rock State Park is a place to immerse oneself in nature, appreciate the region's history, and enjoy the scenic beauty of Illinois.
