Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving, head east on I-70 from any location in Prairie State. Take exit 190 for IL-16 toward Mattoon. Merge onto IL-16 E and continue for about 10 miles. Once you reach Mattoon, turn left onto Dewitt Ave E. After approximately 1 mile, the Douglas-Hart Nature Center will be on your left at 2204 Dewitt Ave E. Parking is available on-site.

• Public Transportation

  For public transportation, take the local bus service (check the Prairie State transit authority for routes and schedules). You will want to take a bus that heads towards Mattoon. Once you arrive in Mattoon, you can walk or use a rideshare service (like Uber or Lyft) to get to Douglas-Hart Nature Center, which is about 2 miles away. Be sure to check the bus schedule in advance as services may be limited, especially on weekends.

• Bicycling

  If you prefer to bike, start in the center of Mattoon and follow Dewitt Ave E. The route is relatively flat and should take about 15-20 minutes to bike to Douglas-Hart Nature Center. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow local bicycle laws. There are bike racks available at the center.

• Walking

  If you're staying nearby, walking to the Douglas-Hart Nature Center is a pleasant option. Starting from downtown Mattoon, head east on E Broadway Ave, then turn left onto Dewitt Ave E. It’s approximately a 40-minute walk, so wear comfortable shoes and enjoy the scenery along the way.
