If you are traveling by car, start by navigating to Homer Lake Forest Preserve at 2573 S Homer Lake Rd, Homer, IL 61849. From the center of Prairie State, take IL-54 E (also known as E Washington St) until you reach the intersection with US-45 S. Turn right onto US-45 S and continue for approximately 10 miles. Then, take a left onto IL-104 E and continue for about 5 miles. Finally, take a right onto S Homer Lake Rd. The preserve will be on your left. There are no parking fees at the preserve.

To reach Homer Lake Forest Preserve via public transportation, first take a bus (such as the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District bus #5) to the nearest transit hub. From there, you will need to transfer to a regional bus service that can take you closer to Homer, IL. Note that this may require some coordination, as service frequency can vary. Once you are in Homer, you can use a rideshare service or taxi to get to the preserve, as it is not directly serviced by public transit. Ensure to check the schedule for the last bus returning to Prairie State to avoid being stranded.
