    Car

    If you're driving from downtown Prairie State, begin your journey by heading northwest on Main Street toward Highway 47. Turn left onto Highway 47 and continue for approximately 10 miles. You will then merge onto IL-90 W (also known as the Northwest Tollway) towards Rockford. Keep an eye out for signs indicating the exit for US-20 W. After about 15 miles, take the exit toward IL-20 W. Continue on IL-20 W for about 10 miles until you see the exit for IL-23 N toward Union. Merge onto IL-23 N and continue for about 2 miles. Finally, turn right onto Olson Rd, and the Illinois Railway Museum will be on your right at 7000 Olson Rd, Union, IL 60180. Note that there may be parking fees, so be prepared for a small cost upon arrival.

    Public Transportation

    If you prefer public transportation, start at Prairie State's main bus terminal and take the Pace Bus Route 550 towards McHenry. You will need to transfer at the Crystal Lake Metra Station. Board the Metra train on the Union Pacific Northwest line towards Elgin. Once you arrive at the Elgin station, transfer to the Pace Bus Route 600, which will take you to Union. Get off at the stop closest to Olson Rd. From there, it is about a 15-minute walk to the Illinois Railway Museum at 7000 Olson Rd, Union, IL 60180. Make sure to check the bus and train schedules in advance, as they may vary, and ensure you have sufficient funds for bus fares.
