From any location in Shawnee Hills, head towards the nearest major road. If you're in Makanda, take the IL-51 S towards Carbondale. Continue on IL-51 S for about 7 miles. Then, take the exit for IL-146 W toward Vienna. After approximately 5 miles, turn left onto Panther Den Rd. Follow this road until you reach the parking area for Panther Den Wilderness, which will be on your right. Parking is free.

If you are using public transportation, take a bus from Shawnee Hills towards Carbondale. Once in Carbondale, you can catch a taxi or rideshare service to IL-51 S. After arriving at the intersection of IL-146 W, you will need to walk approximately 1.5 miles along IL-146 W to reach the entrance of Panther Den Wilderness. Ensure you have proper walking shoes and bring water for the 1.5-mile walk.
