The Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Agartala, Tripura, serves as a vital link between India and Bangladesh, streamlining trade and travel between the two nations. Inaugurated on November 17, 2013, the ICP is strategically located in the capital city of Agartala, close to the Akhaura border in Bangladesh. This makes it the only ICP situated within a municipal area, offering convenient access.The Agartala ICP is more than just a border crossing; it's a bustling hub of activity where visitors can witness the daily exchange of goods and observe the interactions between people from both sides of the border. The modern infrastructure includes a passenger terminal, cargo building, warehouse, inspection shed, and parking area. This infrastructure supports the efficient processing of customs, immigration, and security procedures.As the second busiest land port between India and Bangladesh, after Petrapole-Benapole, Agartala ICP plays a significant role in regional trade. In the fiscal year 2023-24, the port facilitated trade worth ₹318 crore. The primary imports include items like crushed stone and cement, while exports consist of bamboo, dry fish, and dry chili.For tourists, a visit to the ICP offers a unique perspective on cross-border logistics and the cultural dynamics of the region. While primarily a governmental facility, the surrounding area provides opportunities to experience local customs and explore the markets of Agartala, where traditional handicrafts, textiles, and local delicacies can be found. On weekends, formal parades and flag hoisting ceremonies are held, adding a cultural dimension to the experience.The Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI) is dedicated to improving infrastructure at India's borders, with a focus on security and trade facilitation. In line with this, the Land Port Management System (LPMS) was launched at Agartala ICP on November 26, 2024. This system aims to digitize port operations, reduce logistics costs, enhance efficiency, and ensure compliance.
