Getting There

    The most common way to reach Baratang Island is by road from Port Blair. Hire a private car, jeep, or AC bus, or take a government bus from the Aberdeen Bazaar Bus Terminus. The journey takes approximately 4 hours, 45 minutes. Be prepared for a bumpy ride on the Andaman Trunk Road (ATR), with a short vehicle-ferry connection. Note that two-wheelers are not allowed. Private cars cost around Rs 6000 per day. Government buses are a budget-friendly option.

  • Ferry

    You can also reach Baratang Island by ferry from Port Blair. Government ferry services are available, but they typically don't return on the same day, making it unsuitable for a day trip. The ferry tickets go on sale two days before departure and can be purchased at the ticketing counter. The ferry drops passengers at Baratang and then continues to Havelock Island. The ferry ride takes approximately 45 minutes. After reaching Baratang, take a local ferry to the boat pickup point for the Limestone Caves. This costs approximately ₹10 per person.

  • Limestone Caves

    To visit the Limestone Caves, take a boat from Baratang to the starting point of the trek. This boat ride through mangrove creeks is scenic. After the boat ride, there is an approximate 1.2 km trek to reach the caves. The boat trip to Limestone Caves costs approximately ₹900 per person. The cave entry ticket costs ₹5-10 per person.

  • Mud Volcano

    To visit the Mud Volcano, sharing jeeps are available from Baratang. The jeep will take you to the Mud Volcano. From there, a short 160-meter walk is required to reach the mud volcano. Jeeps to explore the Mud Volcano cost around INR 100-200.
