Getting there

Public Transport

To reach Chidyatapu Light House via public transport, take a bus from Port Blair to Chidyatapu. Buses depart regularly from the main bus stand in Port Blair. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes to 1.2 hours, and the bus fare is around INR 25 - INR 50. From the Chidyatapu bus stand, you may need to walk for 20-30 minutes to reach the lighthouse, following local signage and a path through the forest.

Taxi

To reach Chidyatapu Light House by taxi, hire a taxi from Port Blair. This offers a more convenient and flexible option, especially for groups or families. The one-way taxi fare typically ranges from INR 800 to INR 1500, depending on the type of taxi and negotiation. The taxi will drop you off near the lighthouse entrance, minimizing the walking distance. There may be limited availability of taxis for the return journey from Chidyatapu, so it's advisable to arrange for the taxi to wait or pre-book a return trip.

Walking

If you are already in the Chidyatapu area, the lighthouse is accessible by a walk. Follow the marked trails leading to the lighthouse. The path is surrounded by landscapes, making it a pleasant walk. The walk takes approximately 30 minutes through the forest.

Chidyatapu Light House, commissioned in 2009, is situated on the southernmost tip of South Andaman Island, approximately 28 km from Port Blair. This unmanned lighthouse, a 15-meter composite masonry tower painted with black and white bands, plays a vital role in maritime navigation. It features an LED flasher light powered by battery and solar panels.Beyond its functional purpose, Chidyatapu Light House offers visitors a unique blend of history and natural splendor. The lighthouse is accessible by road from Port Blair to Chidyatapu village, followed by a walk through the forest. The viewpoint provides vibrant colors of the surrounding landscape, lush greenery, and the Andaman Sea.The area is known for its pristine beaches, captivating trails, and diverse flora and fauna, including various bird species and marine life.
