Himayat Bagh, a 17th-century garden, is a sprawling 300-acre biodiversity heritage site in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. Once known as the Mughal Garden, it was developed during Aurangzeb's time by reclaiming land near his palace. Today, it houses the Fruit Research Station and Nursery, a part of the Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth. The garden offers a serene escape with its lush greenery and diverse plant species. Visitors can explore various trees and plants, including fruit-bearing varieties, and witness ongoing research. The site is home to over 25,000 trees of different species, including 831 heritage trees, and attracts over 150 bird species. Birdwatchers and nature photographers will find plenty to admire. Himayat Bagh also holds historical significance. It features the Barra Darri, erected by Ivaz Khan, with a covered aqueduct that once created a natural air-conditioning system. Although inoperative now, the system's remains are worth exploring. The garden's transformation over centuries reflects the region's changing cultural landscape.
