The Jama Masjid, located near the Killa Arrak in Aurangabad, stands as a testament to the city's rich Mughal heritage. Constructed in 1612 AD by Malik Amber shortly after he founded the city, the mosque was later extended in 1692 by Aurangzeb, adding to its architectural grandeur. It remains one of the oldest mosques in Aurangabad and a significant historical landmark. The mosque's architecture is characterized by five rows of ten polygonal pillars connected by a system of nine arches, with five of these arches erected during Malik Amber's time. The structure comprises 27 equal compartments, each covered by a small, elegant domical vault. A spacious court graces the front of the mosque, featuring open buildings on three sides and a water tank fed by the Malik Amber canal. The towering minarets and open courtyards evoke a sense of peace and serenity. Today, the Jama Masjid is not only a place of worship but also a major tourist attraction. Visitors can admire the beautiful white-colored structure, participate in large-scale prayers, and appreciate the intricate details of its Islamic architecture.
