The Anna Centenary Library (ACL) stands as a modern landmark in Chennai, dedicated to fostering knowledge and serving as a hub for the community. Inaugurated on September 15, 2010, the library is named in honor of C.N. Annadurai, a former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, recognizing his passion for books and learning. Built on 8 acres of land in Kotturpuram, the library boasts an impressive 3.75 lakh sq. ft. built-up area across nine floors. The library is designed to accommodate 1250 users at a time and has the capacity to hold over 1.2 million books. Currently, it houses over 6.25 lakhs books covering a wide range of subjects. ACL is more than just a repository of books; it's a modern institution with a Braille section, children's area, digital library, and a conference hall. The library also features an auditorium, amphitheater, and book release hall. The ACL is recognized for its commitment to sustainability, becoming the first library in Asia to receive the LEED NC Gold rating from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) in July 2010. Its eco-friendly design incorporates optimized natural daylight, energy-efficient HVAC and lighting, and water recycling systems. A five-foot bronze statue of C.N. Annadurai greets visitors at the entrance. The library uses an integrated library management system with RFID technology for automated book handling and user smart cards for security.
