Discover more about Chetpet Ecopark

Chetpet Ecopark, inaugurated in February 2016, is a 16-acre haven in Chennai, centered around a picturesque 9-acre lake. This ecopark arose from what was once an abandoned and overgrown water body, revitalized through a government initiative to create a recreational and educational space while addressing the city’s ecological needs. The lake is now maintained with treated water from a tertiary sewage treatment plant, showcasing a commitment to sustainability. The park offers a variety of activities, including boating, catch-and-release fishing, and well-maintained walking and jogging tracks. A children's play area and an amphitheater for cultural events make it a destination for families. The park also features an aquarium, adding to its attractions. Visitors can explore the park's verdant landscape, dotted with wildlife statues and a quaint bridge offering views of a small island. Chetpet Ecopark stands as a testament to Chennai's urban renewal, providing a space for relaxation, recreation, and connection with nature amidst the bustling city. The park is managed by the Tamil Nadu Fisheries Development Corporation.
