Public Bus
If you're starting from central Chennai, head to the nearest bus stop and take a bus heading towards Fort St. George. Look for buses numbered 1A, 1B, or 5, which frequently stop near the fort. You will want to get off at the 'Fort St. George' bus stop. From there, it’s just a short walk to the museum, which is located on Rajaji Road, near the Legislature and Secretariat.
Local Train
If you prefer to travel by train, head to the nearest railway station, such as Chennai Egmore or Chennai Central. Take a local train to Chennai Fort Station, which is the closest station to Fort St. George. Once you arrive at Chennai Fort Station, exit the station and walk towards Rajaji Road. The museum is located near the Legislature and Secretariat, just a 10-minute walk from the station.
Auto-Rickshaw
You can also hire an auto-rickshaw for a more direct route. Simply tell the driver 'Fort St. George Museum' or show them the address: Rajaji Rd, near Legislature and Secretariat, Chennai, Tamil Nadu 600009. The ride will take approximately 10-20 minutes depending on traffic. Make sure to negotiate the fare before starting your journey if the auto does not have a meter.
Walking
If you're in close proximity, walking to Fort St. George Museum can be a pleasant experience. Use a map app on your smartphone to navigate to Rajaji Road. The museum is situated right next to the Legislature and Secretariat. As you approach, look for the large entrance that leads into the historical fort area, where the museum is located.
