Valankulam Boat House: Lakeside Leisure in Coimbatore

Valankulam Boat House, located on the banks of Valankulam Lake, was once a popular recreational destination in Coimbatore. The boat house was developed as part of the Smart City Projects Mission, offering boating facilities and a scenic environment for visitors. The lake itself is situated between Trichy Road and Sungam bypass road. Visitors could enjoy tranquil views of the lake, especially during sunrise and sunset, with the Western Ghats providing a stunning backdrop. Various boating options, including row boats, pedal boats, and motor boats, were available for a recreational outing with friends and family. The lake also attracts migratory birds, making it a haven for nature and photography enthusiasts. The surrounding park features walking paths and green spaces for picnics and leisurely strolls. Unfortunately, the Valankulam Boat House has faced challenges, including poor infrastructure, high ride charges, and a lack of basic amenities. As of July 2025, the boat house is non-functional due to operational losses and maintenance failures. Despite the closure, Valankulam Lake and its surrounding park remain a serene escape in Coimbatore, offering a peaceful environment for relaxation and recreation.
