The monastery is located near Pelling, approximately 110 km west of Gangtok, offering breathtaking views of the snow-capped Himalayas. The three-story structure showcases traditional Tibetan architecture, adorned with vibrant murals, intricate woodwork, and statues of saints and Rinpoches. The main prayer hall features colorfully painted doors and windows depicting Tibetan designs. The monastery houses a remarkable collection of antique idols, paintings, and ancient Tibetan scriptures. The top floor features the 'Zangdokpalri,' a seven-tiered wooden structure representing Guru Rinpoche's heavenly abode, a masterpiece crafted by Lama Dungzin Rimpoche. Pemayangtse Monastery has undergone several renovations to preserve its cultural and architectural integrity, having withstood earthquakes and other calamities. The monks of this monastery are selected from the Bhutia community and are known as 'ta-tshang,' meaning 'pure monks'.
