    Discover more about Lodhi Garden

Lodhi Garden, a 90-acre urban oasis in New Delhi, seamlessly blends history and nature. The garden is home to architectural remnants from the Sayyid and Lodi dynasties, who ruled parts of North India from 1414 to 1526. The earliest structure, the Tomb of Mohammed Shah, dates back to 1444. Originally known as Bagh-e-Jud, the area transformed into a sacred burial ground in the 14th century. Key monuments include the Bara Gumbad, Sheesh Gumbad, and the Tomb of Sikandar Lodi, each showcasing Indo-Islamic architectural styles. The Bara Gumbad, built in 1494, features a large dome and an adjacent mosque. The Sheesh Gumbad, or Mirror Dome, is another prominent structure. Sikandar Lodi's tomb, constructed in 1517 by his son Ibrahim Lodi, stands as a testament to the dynasty's influence. In 1936, Lady Willingdon redesigned the area as a landscaped park, initially naming it Lady Willingdon Park. Post-independence in 1947, it was renamed Lodhi Garden. Today, the Archaeological Survey of India protects the garden, preserving its historical legacy. Visitors can explore the garden's rich history, enjoy leisurely walks, and appreciate the blend of architecture and nature. The garden is a popular spot for morning walks, picnics, and photography.
