Mehrauli Archaeological Park is a unique historical site in Delhi, where layers of different eras coexist. The park is spread over 200 acres and contains over 50 monuments, with some dating back to the 11th century. It is considered the only area in Delhi with continuous occupation for over 1,000 years. The park's history begins with Lal Kot, built in 1060 AD by the Tomar Rajputs, the oldest surviving fort in Delhi. Subsequent rulers, including the Khaljis, Tughlaqs, Lodhis, Mughals, and the British, also left their mark on the area. Key monuments and structures within the park include the Tomb of Balban, which features the first true arch and dome in India. The Jamali Kamali Mosque and Tomb showcase a blend of Indo-Islamic architecture. Rajaon Ki Baoli, a Lodi-era stepwell, reflects medieval water conservation techniques. Other notable sites include Adham Khan's Tomb, Quli Khan's Tomb (later transformed into a British retreat), and the Dargah of Qutab Sahib, a Sufi shrine. Getting There

Metro
The nearest metro station is Qutab Minar on the Yellow Line. From the station, walk approximately 500 meters to the park entrance. Upon exiting Qutub Minar metro station, walk to your right towards Delhi. The park entrance is about 500 meters from the metro station and on your left. There is no signboard that names the park. Look for a vertical signboard in blue and yellow, which says 'Dilli Vikas Pradhikaran' in Hindi, outside a gate. That gate is the entry to the park. Metro fare from Chawri Bazar to Qutab Minar is approximately ₹30-₹45.

Taxi/Auto
From Qutab Minar Metro Station, you can hire a taxi or auto-rickshaw to reach the park entrance. The ride is short, but can save you from walking in the heat. An auto-rickshaw may cost around ₹52, while a taxi may cost around ₹83.

Bus
Buses going towards Lado Sarai will drop you at Ahimsa Sthal. Walk for about 150 meters towards Gurgaon, along the Mehrauli-Gurgaon road. The entry to the Park will be on your right. Bus lines that go to Mehrauli Archeological Park include 428, 516, and 525.
