Shri Yogmaya Temple: A Testament to Delhi's Enduring Faith

The Yogmaya Temple, also known as Jogmaya Temple, is a revered Hindu shrine dedicated to Goddess Yogmaya, considered the sister of Lord Krishna. Located in Mehrauli, near the Qutub Minar complex, it is believed to be one of the five surviving temples from the Mahabharata period in Delhi. Mehrauli, one of Delhi's seven ancient cities, holds a rich history, and this temple stands as a testament to the area's enduring spiritual significance. According to folklore, the temple was originally built by the Pandavas after their victory in the Kurukshetra war. Some accounts suggest Lord Krishna constructed it and Anangpala Tomara expanded it. During Aurangzeb's reign, a rectangular Islamic-style hall was added. The Yogmaya Temple is a vibrant center for Hindu festivals. Navaratri is the most prominent festival, drawing large crowds. The annual Phoolwalon-ki-sair, a festival of flowers with deep historical roots, is celebrated with enthusiasm, promoting interfaith harmony. Other festivals include Janmashtami and Shivaratri.
