Taxi
From Bagdogra Airport (IXB), taxis are readily available to Kalimpong. The journey is approximately 80 kilometers and takes around 2.5 to 3 hours. Pre-paid taxi counters are available at the airport. Expect to pay between ₹2,275 and ₹4,000 for a one-way trip, depending on the vehicle type and season. Alternatively, from New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP), hire a taxi or shared jeep to Kalimpong. Shared jeeps are available from around 7 am to 3 pm and cost approximately ₹250-₹300 per person. A private taxi will cost between ₹3,000 and ₹4,500. Local taxis within Kalimpong are readily available for local sightseeing. Hourly rentals range from ₹250 for 1 hour (10 km) to ₹1011 for 6 hours (60 km). Full-day rentals for sightseeing range from ₹1,400 to ₹2,000.
Public Transport
From Siliguri, buses to Kalimpong are available at the Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminal. Shared taxis are also available near the bus terminal and Vishal Cinema. The shared taxi fare is approximately ₹250-₹300 per person. Buses are a cheaper option, but may take longer. Once in Kalimpong, local buses and shared jeeps are available for getting around, but private taxis offer more flexibility.
Walking
Many of Kalimpong's attractions are located within walking distance of the main town area. Walking is a great way to explore the local markets, monasteries, and nurseries. However, be prepared for uphill climbs, as the town is spread over a ridge. Taxis and auto-rickshaws are readily available if you prefer not to walk.
