Gwalior Fort, a formidable structure in Madhya Pradesh, has a history stretching back to the 6th century. Known as the 'Gibraltar of India' for its strategic position and imposing architecture, the fort has been controlled by various dynasties, including the Tomars, Mughals, Marathas, and Scindias. Mughal Emperor Babur described it as the 'pearl amongst the fortresses of Hind'. The fort's origins are linked to a local legend about King Suraj Sen, who was cured of leprosy by a sage named Gwalipa. In gratitude, the king built the fort and named it after the sage.
