Discover more about Purani Haveli

Purani Haveli, translating to 'Old Mansion,' offers a captivating journey into the world of the Nizams of Hyderabad. Originally intended as the residence for Mir Momen, the prime minister of Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah in the 16th century, it was later acquired and refurbished by the Nizams in the 18th century. The palace complex showcases a unique blend of 18th-century European architecture with Hindu and Islamic motifs. The U-shaped complex features a central single-story building with two parallel double-story wings. Deep verandas adorned with semi-circular European arches add to the architectural charm. One of the most remarkable features of Purani Haveli is the world's longest wardrobe, spanning 240 feet and built on two levels with a hand-operated wooden elevator. The palace also houses the Nizam's Museum, displaying a collection of artifacts, including gifts, souvenirs, vintage cars like a 1930 Rolls Royce, and the Nizam's personal belongings. Today, Purani Haveli serves as a museum and also houses a training institute and women's education center. A visit here provides a glimpse into the opulence and lifestyle of the Nizams, making it a significant landmark in Hyderabad.
