Car
If you're traveling by car, start from Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Head south on NH44 for about 75 kilometers towards Anantnag. Once you reach Anantnag, take the road that leads to Pahalgam. After approximately 20 kilometers, look for a sign towards Kausar nag. Follow the directions to Kausar nag, which is about 20 kilometers away from Pahalgam, navigating through scenic landscapes. Ensure your vehicle has good ground clearance as the last part of the road can be rough. Parking is available near the trek starting point. The total drive may take around 3-4 hours depending on road conditions.
Public Transportation
For those opting for public transport, take a bus or shared taxi from Srinagar to Anantnag, which will cost around INR 100-200 per person. Buses run frequently throughout the day. Once you reach Anantnag, you can hire a taxi to Pahalgam, costing approximately INR 700-1000 for a private taxi. From Pahalgam, you can hire a pony or opt for a local taxi to take you to the base of the Kausar nag trek. The pony ride usually costs around INR 1500-2500, depending on negotiation. Be prepared for a trek of about 8-10 kilometers from the base to reach Kausar nag.
Trekking
The trek to Kausar nag is moderate and takes about 4-5 hours. It requires a good level of fitness and proper trekking gear. The trail starts from the point where you park your vehicle or get off the pony. Follow the well-marked path through lush meadows and pine forests. Remember to carry water, snacks, and a first-aid kit. It’s advisable to start the trek early in the morning to enjoy cooler temperatures and the stunning views. The best time to visit is from May to October when the weather is pleasant.
