If you are driving from Srinagar to the Kashmir Lakes Trek starting point, head east on Lal Mandi Road toward the Srinagar-Leh Highway (NH 1D). After about 1.5 km, turn left onto the NH 1D. Continue for approximately 18 km until you reach the town of Sonamarg. From Sonamarg, follow the signs to the Thajiwas Glacier. You will find parking available near the trekking starting point. Note that there may be a parking fee, so keep some cash handy.

Taking a taxi from Srinagar is a convenient option. You can hire a taxi from the local taxi stand or book one through a ride-hailing app. The drive to Sonamarg takes about 2-3 hours, depending on traffic. Make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand or confirm the fare via an app. Expect to pay around INR 2500-3500 for a one-way trip.

For budget travelers, public buses run from Srinagar to Sonamarg. Head to the Bus Stand in Srinagar and look for buses heading towards Sonamarg. The bus journey takes around 3-4 hours. The fare is economical, usually around INR 100-150. Once you arrive at Sonamarg, you may need to hire a local taxi or walk to the starting point of the trek, which is about 4 km away.

From Sonamarg, if you prefer not to walk the 4 km to the trek starting point, you can hire a pony (horse). This is a popular mode of transport in the region and can be arranged at the local pony stand. The cost for a pony ride is typically around INR 600-800 for a one-way trip. Make sure to negotiate the price before starting your ride.
