Car
If you are driving, begin your journey in Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya. From Shillong, take the NH6 highway heading south towards Nongpoh. After approximately 26 km, take the exit towards the NH40 highway, continuing for another 45 km until you reach the town of Nongstoin. From Nongstoin, follow the signs towards Nongriat, which is about 14 km away. The last stretch will lead you through a narrow road; keep an eye out for signposts indicating Phot Sumchrieh. The exact destination is at 788J+HWR, Nongnah, Meghalaya 793106. Ensure you have a GPS or a reliable map app for navigation, as some roads may not be well-marked.
Public Transportation (Bus)
To reach Phot Sumchrieh by public transport, start at the Shillong Bus Stand. You can catch a bus heading toward Nongstoin, with several departures throughout the day. The journey will take approximately 2-3 hours, costing around INR 100-150. Once you arrive at Nongstoin, hire a local taxi or a shared cab to Nongriat. This taxi ride will cost you around INR 400-500 and take approximately 30 minutes. Make sure to inform the driver that your destination is Phot Sumchrieh at 788J+HWR, Nongnah, Meghalaya 793106.
Shared Taxi
If you prefer a quicker option than the bus, you can take a shared taxi from Shillong to Nongstoin. Shared taxis can be found at the Shillong Taxi Stand and typically leave when full. The fare is about INR 200-250 per person, and the ride will be approximately 1.5-2 hours. From Nongstoin, you will still need to hire a local taxi to reach Phot Sumchrieh, which will cost around INR 400-500.
