Getting there

Car Rental

If you're in Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya, you can rent a car and drive to Thamrong Falls. Start by taking the NH6 from Shillong towards Jowai. Continue on this highway for about 55 km until you reach the junction to Jowai. At the junction, take the right turn towards Jowai town. Drive for approximately 12 km through Jowai, and then follow the signs for Mawkarah. The falls are located near Mawkarah, which is approximately 10 km from Jowai. Use the coordinates 25.7327633, 91.57364299999999 to navigate directly to Thamrong Falls' location.

Public Transportation

From Shillong, you can take a shared taxi or bus to Jowai. The journey takes about 2 hours and costs around ₹100-₹150 per person. Once you arrive in Jowai, you will need to hire a local taxi to take you to Mawkarah, which is about 10 km away. The taxi fare from Jowai to Mawkarah ranges from ₹300-₹500. Ensure you agree on the fare before starting the journey. From Mawkarah, you may need to walk a short distance to reach the falls.

Local Taxi

If you are already in Jowai, you can hire a local taxi to take you directly to Thamrong Falls. Local taxis are available near the bus station. The journey from Jowai to the falls will take approximately 30 minutes. Make sure to negotiate the fare, which should be around ₹300-₹500 one way.

Walking

Once you reach Mawkarah, the final stretch to Thamrong Falls may require a short walk. Depending on where your taxi drops you off, the walk could be anywhere from 10-20 minutes. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes as the path may be uneven and could involve some light hiking.
