Car
From Munnar town, head towards Suryanelli on the NH 49. The distance to Kolukkumalai Tea Estate is approximately 35 kilometers. Follow the road signs to Suryanelli. Once you reach Suryanelli, take a left turn towards Kolukkumalai; the road will become narrower and more winding. It is advisable to use a vehicle with good ground clearance, preferably a 4x4, as the last stretch of the road to Kolukkumalai is rough and unpaved. Be prepared for a drive of about 1.5 to 2 hours from Munnar. Parking is available near the tea estate.
Public Transport
To reach Kolukkumalai by public transport, first take a local bus or taxi from Munnar to Suryanelli. The bus fare typically costs around INR 20-30 and the journey takes about 30-45 minutes. Once in Suryanelli, you will need to hire a local jeep (often referred to as a 'jeep safari') to take you to Kolukkumalai Tea Estate. The jeep ride will cost around INR 1500-2000 for a round trip and takes approximately 30-45 minutes. Ensure to negotiate the fare beforehand and confirm the time for your return trip.
