Car
If you're traveling by car, start your journey from Shillong, which is approximately 15 km away from Umiam Lake Viewpoint. Head north on National Highway 40 (NH40) from Shillong. The drive will take around 30 minutes. You will see signs for Umiam Lake as you approach. The viewpoint is located at MV2V+FJF, National Highway 40, Umiam, Meghalaya 793016. There's parking available near the viewpoint.
Public Transportation
For public transportation, catch a local bus or shared taxi from Shillong to Umiam. Buses leave from the main bus station in Shillong, known as the Iewduh or Bara Bazar. Look for buses heading to Umiam or Nongpoh. The journey takes about 30-45 minutes and costs around ₹30-₹50. Once you reach Umiam, you may need to walk approximately 1 km to reach the viewpoint, or you can hire a local taxi which should cost about ₹100-₹150.
Private Taxi
If you prefer a more comfortable option, you can hire a private taxi from Shillong. Rates vary, but you can expect to pay around ₹800-₹1200 for a round trip, which typically includes waiting time at the viewpoint. Make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand. The taxi will take you directly to the Umiam Lake Viewpoint, saving you the hassle of public transport.
