Auto-rickshaw
From the center of Pondicherry, head to the nearest auto-rickshaw stand. You can find these near popular areas like the Promenade Beach or the White Town. Tell the driver you want to go to the 'Auroville Visitors Centre.' The ride should take approximately 30-40 minutes depending on traffic. The driver will take you through the Auroville Road, which is well-marked. Keep an eye out for the Auroville signs along the way.
Bus
Locate the nearest bus stop in Pondicherry that services Auroville. Buses to Auroville run frequently, so check the schedule. Board a bus heading to Auroville and enjoy the scenic ride. Disembark at the Auroville Visitors Centre stop. From the bus stop, walk for about 5 minutes along the path towards the Visitors Centre. Look for the large signage indicating the Centre.
Bicycle rental
If you're feeling adventurous, rent a bicycle from one of the local rental shops in Pondicherry. Ride along the coast towards Auroville. Follow the ECR Road (East Coast Road) and then take the Auroville Road, which is marked. It’s approximately 10 km from the city center to the Auroville Visitors Centre, so plan for about 45 minutes to an hour of cycling. Make sure to wear a helmet and stay hydrated!
Walking
Walking to the Auroville Visitors Centre is not recommended due to the distance (approximately 10 km) and the traffic conditions. However, if you are near Auroville, you can walk to the Centre by following the signs or asking locals for directions. It’s a peaceful area, and you might enjoy the natural surroundings.
