From the center of Shillong (Police Bazaar), head south towards the main road (Mawphlang Road). You can ask locals for directions to Mawphlang as it's a well-known spot. Walk for about 30 minutes until you reach the junction at Mawphlang. At the junction, take a left turn onto the Shillong-Cherrapunji Road. Continue along this road for approximately 10 kilometers (around 2 hours of walking). You will pass through beautiful landscapes and lush greenery. Keep an eye out for signboards indicating Cherrapunji. Once you reach Cherrapunji, ask locals for directions to the David Scott Memorial Stone, as it is a recognized landmark in the area.
Bus
From Police Bazaar, take a local bus heading towards Cherrapunji. The buses are generally available from the bus stand located near the Police Bazaar. The journey will take about 1.5 to 2 hours. Once you arrive in Cherrapunji, you can either walk or hire a local taxi to reach the David Scott Memorial Stone. It's advisable to ask the bus conductor or local people to drop you off at the nearest point to the Memorial Stone.
Trekking
For adventurous tourists, you can opt for a trekking route from Shillong to Cherrapunji. Start your trek from the East Khasi Hills Trail, which is accessible from Shillong city. Follow the trail for about 15 kilometers through scenic views, and it will lead you towards Cherrapunji. The trek can take anywhere from 4 to 5 hours, depending on your pace. Once you reach Cherrapunji, you can ask for directions to the David Scott Memorial Stone.
